We often label things we think of as special or rare as art. Some people describe a woman’s body as art, while others use it on breathtaking nature. Often a sumptuous meal can be described as art, too. That’s why art, even though it seems so close, is often farther away in everyday life. And yet, there is one person who disagrees, whose everyday life is actually close to art. For him, things like plastic bottle caps and baskets, banners and waxed cloths, vinyl bags and rubber balloons are all art. To introduce him I would like to quote from a poem by Choon-su Kim.

“Before he acknowledged its existence,
plastic to him was no more than the
material cheap objects were made of.

After he acknowledged its existence,
plastic to him had become
the beautiful flower that is called art.”
